SVT Snorkel and Volant Install

Compliments of myFordFocus.com Forum Member: bgkast

Time to complete: 2 hrs

Cost: $20 for SVT Snorkel and $250 for Volant

Note: I got the idea to use the stock intake tube as an adapter for the SVT snorkel from a post on Focaljet. Ideally I would have used a different piece of tubing so that I could save the stock parts, but I could not find a large enough hose.

Stock Air Duct/Box Removal:

  1. Remove the battery box top, simply pops off.
  2. Disconnect your battery using the 10mm socket.
  3. Remove the battery tie-down strap using the 10mm socket that screws into the bottom of the box.
  4. Remove the battery from the car.
  5. Using your screwdriver, remove the clamps that hold the upper air duct to the throttle body and MAF.
  6. Using your screwdriver, unscrew the air box top.
  7. Using the #25 Torx bit, unbolt the MAF from the stock air box top and set aside for installation on the Volant box.
  8. Discard your stock air filter.
  9. Disconnect the PCV tube from the stock air box. Leave attached to the valve cover...
  10. Remove the air box bottom. Give it a good pull, it is only attached using rubber grommets.
  11. Remove your stock snorkle and lower tubes.

SVT Snorkle Preparation:

  1. Cut about 3 inches off of the back of the SVT snorkel.
  2. Cut the accordion section off of the stock intake tube.
  3. To round out the SVT snorkel, use something round (I used a roll of tape) to hold the SVT snorkel in a round shape. (pic 8) and use a heat gun to warm the plastic. After the SVT snorkel has cooled it should stay in a mostly round shape.
  4. Slide the accordion section onto the SVT snorkel, mane sure that the end of the accordion section with the stock clamp in it is pointing up.
  5. Use electrical or some sort of other tape to seal between the SVT snorkel and accordion section, then use a hose clamp to secure.
  6. Install the new snorkel into the car.

Volant Install:

  1. Install the MAFS into the Volant air box.
  2. Install the Volant into the car and tighten the clamp on the snorkel into the bottom inlet of the Volant air box.
  3. Attach the stock breather tube to the Volant.
  4. Re-install the battery.

Optional:

Foam seal for top of Volant

  1. Cut a foam garden knee pad to the shape of the top of the opening of the Volant.
  2. Spray the top of the foam with 3M-77 spray adhesive. Wait until the glue is tacky, then set the foam on the intake and close the hood. Allow the glue to dry (10 min)
  3. Open the hood. The foam should be stuck to the inside of the hood.

Secondary intake tubing:

  1. Buy a 2 foot section of 3 inch dryer hose.
  2. Attach the hose to the second intake hole on the Volant and run it behind the headlight.
