Rear Drum Painting

Have your rear drums have lost thier original factory paint and look dull and maybe even have rust spots. Here is a good how-to.

Tools required:

• 1 can of high heat engine paint or brake caliper paint.
• 1 can of brake cleaner.
• Wire brush.
• Mild soapy water.
• Shop rag(s).
• Newspaper or something for masking off area you don't want the spray paint to hit...
• Masking tape.
• Wheel grease.

Time to complete: .5 - 1 hour

Instructions:

1. Jack up the rear of the car, obviously on the side you are working on.
2. Remove the wheel.
3. If your drum has rust spots, use a wire brush to remove the rust spots.
4. Clean the drum with the brake cleaner.
5. Wash down the drum with the mild soapy water to remove any residue.
6. Let dry.
7. Mask off any area you don't want the spray paint to get on, like the fenders...
8. Paint the drum with 3-4 light coats of the paint, allowing each coat to dry for several minutes.
9. Let dry for 15-30 minutes.
10. Take a good look and be amazed at the job you did
11. Add a small amount of wheel grease to your wheel hub, to prevent your wheel from seizing to the hub.
12. Replace your wheel.
13. Take another long look at the new paint job
