The Future Focus of Ford: 2012 Ford Focus Hybrid

When Ford first began designing the new Ford Focus Hybrid, they focused on creating a performance hybrid car to produce the power of a six cylinder engine, while giving better fuel economy than a normal four cylinder car. As a result, they created the new Ecoboost system for the 2012 Ford Focus Hybrid's 2.0L engine, which boasts around 305 horsepower.

The Ecoboost system features a turbocharged four cylinder engine, with Twin-Independent Variable Cam Timing, also referred to as Ti-VCT, to produce more power to the front wheels, while also creating less emissions. Although this system seems like it would consume more fuel than an average car, Ford designed a special direct fuel injection system which is supposed to send a very small, pressurized drop of gasoline, around the size of the tip on a sharp pencil, to the combustion chamber. This ultimately regulates and reduces the amount of fuel consumed.

The 2012 Ford Focus Hybrid will also feature a second engine, which will be completely electric and will only provide power to the rear wheels. By having both the Ecoboost system and the second electric motor in the future Ford Focus Hybrid, they will be able to have great performance while still getting around 40 miles per gallon.

As for the performance side of the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus Hybrid, the car is said to reach 60 miles per hour in only five seconds and have a maximum speed of around 155 miles per hour. Although the design and features of the future Ford Focus Hybrid is still being finalized, the new Ford Focus Hybrid will try to bring the concept of hybrid cars and performance tuning together.

The car should reach dealerships in late 2011 to early 2012; however, everyone was already able to view this newly developed concept at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, earlier this year.
